Workshops are nearly useless. Caravans are barely any better. The only real way to make money is through war (selling equipment) or being lucky enough to own a major city. I've had one game since the beginning which has survived every patch. I make $3-4k a day simply by owning 1 city. I also have 2 castles but they are a loss/break even.

Historically, countries that lost wars had to pay tribute to the victor to save their own ass. This seems reasonable, you took their cities and if you make peace those cities will stay with you. With war they have a chance to take them back. You should pay tribute to them to keep those cities. #4.

Head up north and murderize a few sea raiders, then take their axes and melt them down into 2 wood and 3 iron, which sells for 300-600 per axe and the wood generated produces enough coal to melt another axe. It's a great way to earn initial money to buy a workshop. #6.

Betting Fraud is a quest in Bannerlord given by gang leader notables in Towns. A gang leader asks the player to participate in five future tournaments and to fix their results so that the gang leader and their associates can make huge profits from the betting. But at the core, the numbers make no sense. A woodshop require hardwood to make bows and shield and it can produce level 5 weapons. Wood cost barely any money but the weapons produced by it can sell for over 100k.
Having a full garrison does make the AI more likely to besiege easier targets. Also besieging enemy fiefs also seem to draw groups of nobles and armies away from sieging. But yeah, I hear you. Having a garrison can free up a little time/space. Also garrison helps security, which in turn helps productivity of the fief.
You could declare war and make peace "in person" with lord on campaign map, no tribute for either side this way. Find lord of a faction you are paying tribute to, defeat him in battle, propose peace in kingdom menu, they should be paying you now instead, since you won 1 field battle. CptBoneArrr.
